When I talked with the owner the first thing he told me was: I had this built too small. We love the screened porch, but we just want it larger and more open. Whitmer Decks, LLC can help with that. The old screened porch was 12x12 and the new one is 15x18. The new one also has cathedral exposed beam ceiling which makes it seem even larger. The outer deck was increase in size which involved moving some brick work. Another challenge was patching a hole in the wall on the house where an abandoned vent came through the brick. It was difficult to match the brick, but we were able to come up with a pretty close match. Holidays will be a lot more comfortable in the future at this house when all the family is there.

The original screened porch and deck were constructed fairly well, so we were able to leverage the basic structure of both of them. The original stairs landed in an awkward place and made travel from the deck to the driveway difficult at best. The owners also wanted to incorporate a hot tub into the new space. Our design created a new large deck area in an otherwise wasted space. This setup perfectly for a hot tub. The result is a stunning outdoor living space that can be used to entertain for large parties as well as small gatherings. The traffic pattern to get from the back door to the driveway has been greatly improved, and will now be used with much greater frequency.

The open deck had worked well, but it had seen its day and the bugs were just making it impossible to enjoy the backyard as much as they would have liked. A screened porch was the answer. This screened porch/deck combination has all the bells and whistles, including composite on the deck and white PVC trim all over the outside. What a great finish and fit this already beautiful backyard.

Trouble was, that there was no door off that level of the house. The house was also brick in the rear which further complicated the matter of the deck attachment and replacing the current windows with doors to provide access to the new deck. We were able to work through all the issues including adding lights outside the doors and an outdoor outlet on the new deck. The support posts that went through the flagstone patio, (and the concrete below it), were finished off to look like they were always there. An iron railing was the finishing touch to keep the view of the golf course open while providing a very safe deck.

Early in 2009 the construction has begun on a new and better press box. The shell is now complete and Whitmer Decks, LLC has completed the landing and stairs leading to from the 2nd story to the ground. The stairs were constructed using Redwood color Evergrain composite material and should provide many, many years of service. Gary Hill, along with approval from others, made the decision on the redwood color to go with the hunter green building and I think the color combination looks great. Honor the game and all that make it possible for our children to participate in such a wonderful sport.

The view to the woods in the rear of the property The owner brought in Whitmer Decks to take a look at a 38 year old deck and see what could be done. After a thorough inspection it was decided that the entire deck would need to be removed and replaced. The view to the woods in the rear of the property is breathtaking, and was very important to the owner’s. This was obvious based on all of the large glass doors and windows on the rear of the house. To get the maximum view it was decided to use glass balusters. One of the first items discussed was what would happen with the Solarium. It was supported by the current deck joists and it needed to be separated and made independent of the deck structure. This was no small feat, and proved to be a little more difficult when we discovered a good deal of damaged wood in the structure. We ended up having to put a beam under the solarium, remove all the glass, rebuild it while supporting the roof and then install the glass again. Another aspect of this deck that is unusual was the large span between support posts. This helped open up the underside and was made possible by the use of manufactured structural beams. The owners were great to work with and in the end everything turned out great.
