- Berdux Deck 29 photos The old deck was showing its age and needed replaced. The basic size and shaped worked well for the needs of the owners. We changed it a bit to make it one level and add a pergola. This created a more usable space that is well balanced. The result was a good fit to the house.
- Bonafede Deck 14 photos The old deck had seen its day and was in dire need of replacement. The size and stair location of the old deck worked well. The changes were: - Move the deck down the house a bit to get it away from the window. - Construct the new deck out of low maintenance composite material. - Provide a much stronger post and beam base. Very nice new look.
- Boyd Deck 27 photos The owner started adding onto the deck himself and decided it was a very large job. That is when he decided to ask for some help from Whitmer Decks. We came in and took care of the deck and while we were there we replaced the posts, beam and railing on the front porch as well. Great result!
- Callahan Screened Porch 27 photos The concrete patio was just not working anymore. The owners really just wanted a more comfortable place to relax and enjoy life. The screend porch fit the space perfectly.
- Connell Screened Porch 29 photos They had a screened porch that really needed a facelift, the deck was a total loss. What a change to the backyard. What was a run down screened porch and a very small platform deck is now a much nicer and usable outdoor living space.
- Courtney Upper Deck 12 photos They had a deck, but it was really too small for the size of the house. They also wanted a hot tub. The solution was to add a larger deck to the old one and make it strong enough to hold the hot tub.
- Feldman Deck 20 photos As part of having some work done to their house the deck was removed. This tow level deck fit perfectly and provides a great view of the lake. The under deck drainage system will keep the patio underneath dry.
- Funk Deck 29 photos The old deck was done. The owners wanted something a bit larger and possibly stairs leading down to the backyard. We explored options of adding stairs, but in the end the decision was made to go without them. In addition to the deck we also completed a custom shed on a concrete slab and installed low voltage lighting on the fence. What a great result.
- Gaitonde Screened Porch 30 photos They had lived with the bugs for quite a few years and were ready to enjoy the outdoors. This one has all the bells and whistles. Composite decking, white PVC trim, metal balusters, Cypress wall/ceiling and of course a beautiful tile floor. Very Nice!
- Galagaza Deck 29 photos The door was there on the side of the house, but it was the “door to nowhere”. A deck on the side of the house was the only option because of the size of the backyard. The side yard was also just a really nice place for a deck. There is great cover from some trees on the side. We had to get a variance from the city of Alexandria to make it happen, but in the end it was all worth it. This one features Redwood Evergrain composite, White Azek rail, accent lights and stone with edging underneath. It just looks like a great place to unwind.
- Getek Deck 25 photos The only way the old deck survived the snow was that the owner was doing a lot of shoveling. The new deck is the same size and shape as the old one, but built much stronger. We also replaced the retaining wall with drainage behind and put stone under the entire deck.
- Giuseppe Deck 11 photos We enlarged the deck the had a bit, but the big change was going to low maintenance composite materail and replacing part of the railing with a bench. The bench also has lights underneath!
- Hine Deck 26 photos They were happy with the basic layout of their deck. They wanted something with safe rails that would also let them take advantage of the great view to the woods in the rear. Another important issue was to improve the flow from the deck to the driveway.
- James Deck 27 photos The small builder deck had served its purpose and they were ready to move up to something a little nicer and a little bigger. A LOT nicer and a LOT bigger! - Two color Azek decking with framing and herringbone patterns - Cedar rail - Custom cedar privacy screen - Low voltage lighting - Under deck drainage system What a great fit for the house. There is plenty of room to entertain now.
- Krupka Screened Porch 31 photos The owners had lived with the door to nowhere for too long, and it was time to have an outdoor living space to enjoy with the family. The backyard is a beautiful setting with a view of woods and a pond. It is a crime to not be making more use of this great setting. Whitmer Decks can help. After working the design based on the owners desires, within what the county would allow, we were able to come up with a great screened porch open deck combination. It fit very well on the back of the house and went well in the backyard. Like most of us the owners are very busy and wanted something low maintenance. Building the deck out of composite material and wrapping the outside of the screened porch in white PVC trim was the answer. I believe there will be many good times on this beautiful outdoor living space.
- Lang Deck 18 photos After adding a large addition to the house they needed a deck. Not just any deck, but on that would match the quality of the high-end siding on the house. We had to design the stairs so that they would land on the existing patio, which required a winder landing. The stone under the deck was a nice touch to really make the whole job look finished.
- Laszewski Deck 19 photos The old deck had searved it's time and needed replaced. There was also a retaining wall that looked to be about the same age. The owners were happy with the genteral size and layout of the deck except for a corner that wsa cut off for some reason. What a great upgrade to this backyard!
- Layne Deck 16 photos The owners were content with the size and shape of their current deck, they just wanted something with low maintenance. There was a hot tub in place that was staying so we needed to work around it. A composite deck with a wood pergola/privacy screen worked out very nicely.
- Liepman Deck 26 photos The old deck had seen its day. What they really wanted was a low maintenance deck that was a little larger and maximized the great view out of the large back windows. The results speak for themselves.
- McFarlane Stairs 16 photos The existing deck worked well, but they really needed a set of stairs so people would not have to go through the house to move to the patio. The owners also wanted a covered area on the patio. Whitmer Decks was able to deliver on both issues with a design that integrated perfectly with the existing. We took the opportunity to add low voltage lighting around the existing deck as well.
- Murray Deck and Shed 44 photos The two decks were done and the shed was about to fall down. The owner liked the design of both deck and the shed and just wanted them replaced, and built to last. After removing the old deck we discovered that there was no rim board on the house and there was no insulation. I bet that floor inside near the deck was very cold. We insulated the floor and added a strong rim board which provided a much stronger and weather resistant solution. The old shed just took a big push and it was on the ground. The new shed is built the same size, but with 5/8” siding and cedar trim. It should last quite a long time. Looks a bit better too;-)
- Paul Deck 95 photos The old deck was gone when we got there. After a few rounds of design attempts we came up with a deck that fit perfectly with the house to include the pool and patio. In the future the patio will be replaced and a hard-scape path that will connect the deck with the pool and patio. We may even screen in that patio under the deck. This deck is quite a showpiece and I bet it looks pretty good at night too, with all of the low voltage light playing off the glass balusters. I need to get out there and take some pictures after the sun goes down. Some interesting features of this one include: - Cedar railing with glass balusters. - Low slope easy climb stairs. - Low voltage lighting on each rail post. - Under deck drainage system over the patio. - Two types of stone for visible and non-visible portions. - Engineered beams over the patio to eliminate the center posts. In short, it is just cooler than the other side of the pillow!
- Popp Deck 28 photos We were starting with a clean slate on this one. The owner’s were looking for a complete solution to include an upper and lower deck with an under-deck drainage system to provide a dry space on the lower deck when the weather is not cooperating. The whole project turned out very well and fits nicely on the back of their house.
- Relk Deck 15 photos This townhouse already had a good sized deck the problem was that you had to go through the house to get to it. There was not enough space in the backyard for stairs and the hill beside the house was quite steep. The solution was to wrap the deck around the house and connect it to the front stoop. We also made the railing outside the front door removable to make moving large items in and out more convenient. This will change the way the deck is used!
- Roberts Deck 29 photos It all started because they wanted to get to the flat part of the property without having to slide down the ivy covered hill. We were able to design a deck that would make this yard much more usable by providing an easy path to the flat portion away from the house and by connecting the rear deck to the side door and walkway.
- Schrantz Deck 27 photos They owners were happy with the size of their current deck. It was just old and ready to be replaced. While replacing the deck we added a couple of extras to include a plant hanger, a privacy screen with low voltage lights and perimeter low voltage rail lighting. The deck in the front of the house was also re-decked and a new cedar gate was added. What a great result!
- Sergent Deck 16 photos The old deck had seen its day and the home grown under deck drainage system had too. The challenge with this deck was that it had to be free standing and not connect to the house in any way because of the stucco. It was also tough because of the very limited working area. The results were a very clean composite deck with metal balusters and a proper under deck drainage system.
- Skog Deck 41 photos The upper deck was a little too small and the owner really wanted to do something more useful with their backyard space. We expanded the upper deck by 1/3 and the lower deck was made to provide a nice entertaining area as well as a place for the kids to play. A new fence was also installed a the same time. What a change for the better.
- Stark Deck 37 photos The size of the old deck worked well we just needed to make a few improvements. - A landing on the stairs worked better for the flow. - Composite material makes for ultra-low maintenance. - Metal balusters improve the view of the wooded back yard. - Framed lattice under for storage. - Stone ground cover makes for a great finished look. We also replaced the split rail fence. What a chance and what an improvement!
- Stoutner Screened Porch 24 photos There was a very small open deck and it did not fit with the size of the house or the backyard. More importantly the owner really wanted a nice outdoor living space to relax and enjoy without the bugs. A screened porch with a small open deck for grilling fit the bill quite nicely.
- Temple Deck And Front Porch 20 photos The size and shape of the deck in the backyard worked well, but needed replaced. Not a problem. Replaced and upgraded with a better bench, stairs and a section of railing for the grill. The front porch had been reworked twice already and the owner wanted the third time to be a charm and the last time. Synthetic materials for the flooring, lattice and trim means that this will be the last time they need to do anything. What a great facelift to the front and rear of this house!
- Vega Shed 17 photos These people really needed a shed and space was very limited. It was a bit challenging to squeeze it in there, but in the end a tiny little quality shed was integrated into a very tight space.
- Whitley Screened Porch 49 photos The old deck was done, and the owners really wanted a place to enjoy their wooded private backyard. A screened porch with an open side deck for grilling was the answer. This outdoor living space features: - Metal balusters - White PVC trim - Low voltage lighting - Stone and edging underneath - New doors into house - Cypress wall and ceiling What a great fit for the house and surroundings!
- Wylie Deck 47 photos The basic size and shape of their old deck worked well, but it was a little past it’s prime. After talking we decided that we would create a low maintenance deck with composite material and make a few improvements over the old one along the way. Some of the changes include: - Move the stairs to the driveway to flow a little better. - Add a large landing for the stairs to the back yard. - Utilize low maintenance materials for the deck. - Add low voltage lighting on each rail post. - Replace the fence and associated gate around the entire property. What a change for the better! This one really turned out fantastic!
